Gettin' Paid

I've asked my Techno-Nerd Velma to see if she could add links to the side of this blog to some of the more educational stuff I've posted. Things that the newbies keep asking about... how to find a parlor, code words, what to expect, etc...

Well as you can see, she hasn't figured it out yet. But, she did discover that I could put ads on this page and maybe make some money. At first I thought that was kinda sleazy. Yes, a blog about handjobs that doesn't want to appear sleazy. Well Velma pointed out the irony in that, so now I'm wondering how that would work.

So what do you guys out there think? If I added ads to this thing, would you respect me in the morning? I mean, I've seen other blogs that have advertisements for sex toys and stuff, and I always thought that was kinda cheesy. Also made me think that the blog wasn't real and it was all about selling crap.

Well the only thing I'm trying to sell here (so far) is the massage parlor lifestyle. Don't know how I'd feel seeing ads for condoms and dildos on the sides of the page. I don't know.

But it's not like I haven't made money in other ventures. I've occasionally done outcall therapeutic massage for some of my mom's friends. I've helped old boyfriends paint houses. And once I even did housekeeping. That particular job was for an old Sugar Daddy (and like most of my stories, it ended with a hand job), but I have to admit that I worked my ass off that day and that house was immaculate when I was done.
So honestly, what do you guys think? Should I put ads up on this thing?

CJ

I say if there is a way for you to make money without doing anything, go for it! As long as you are still writing, I'll be reading. Who knows, I may even see something advertised that I just have to click on...

Also, as a new erotic masseuse myself, I can't tell you how much I've learned from your blog and realize I'm not alone in the craziness. BIG HUGS!

There is nothing wrong with monetizing a blog, as long as you don't let it effect your content. I'm not sure, though, how much could be made from Google Adsense, or whether they will approve your site, since it could be considered a lude topic. They rejected my site because its about gambling, even though I know a slew of other poker blogs that had no issues. Good luck.

No reason not to add AdSense if they'll approve you. I would avoid the adult display ad companies as they are cheesy and distracting. I've tried them and their ads have a lot of blinking and naked women.

Adding links to certain stories on the sidebar is easy. Add a "links" gadget in blogger layout, name it, and just add the URL for each post, name it what you want, and put them in whatever order you want.

Why not? If nothing else it might cover your internet costs. I would do it.

Good God woman do you really need more money? I would kill to have a cush job like yours. Every day you either make a shit-ton of money (when there's lots of customers) or you get to lounge around all day (when there's few customers.)$80/hour to be the object of sexual gratification? Hell yeah!

I would trade jobs with you in a heartbeat. But women aren't interested in paying men for sex work. Hell, even gay guys would rather do each other than pay me for services.

I say give it a go for at least a month. That way you can get a feel for how sleazy the ads are that are posted (I don't know how it works exactly, but I think Google rotates ads based on what you're talking about in your blog?). If you don't like them, you can always get rid of them. If you don't mind it and don't feel that they're distracting, why not keep it around? I don't think it'll be a lot of money, but it might be good for a beer or two. Hey money is money, right?

I think that advertisements are a part of the internet. I also think that you are entitled to make a living.

You should definitely put up ads. If people don't like 'em, they can subscribe via RSS if it annoys them.

Part of me says, "Yeah! go for it" make as much money as you can. But another says, I like this site because of the lack of selling me anything except entertaining stories. This site is great because it feels like you are talking to just "me", confiding in me. Aren't men simple creatures?

Anonymous said...

I'm not that concerned about whether you run ads, but there may be a bit of kickback.

Don't expect to make much money unless you're getting tens of thousands of hits a day.

Why not try putting up an Amazon wishlist so that your fans can send you gifts or whatnot? From what I read, the amount of money you get from adsense is not worth the clutter or such you are worried about.

If you do setup an Amazon wishlist, make sure you have it sent to an PO box or something... I don't think Amazon does release your address, but it is an extra level of safety.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY put ads on your blog! Do it now. I can't think of a reason not to monetize this thing! Just be careful not to step on the rules of Blogger.com. I do not want to be without you, CJ.

Advertising is good. Normally I would advertise things that you support AKA Jiffy Lube or whatever lol. Sidenote - you can possibly get a trial sample!!

Your Techno-Geek is weak in the geek and should be fired. You need a real man-nerd like me!!! If you ever need any help let me know I would be more than happy to give you a hand.

P.S. Travis is lame and does not know how much your wrists ache at the end of the day!!! Touching strange guys all day HAS to be a hard job sometimes.

Travis said...

SirFWALGMan: I would gladly hurt my wrists to earn $80 an hour. I think if you're honest with yourself you'd realize you would too.

Having some ads is a good idea, I say go for it. But keep it nonintrusive. Google's Adsense would be a good choice.

As for the sidebar thing: Click "Layout" on the Blogger Dashboard, then select "Add Gadget" on the sidebar there. Now you can either select "Text" or "Link List." Notice also that you can add a poll to your sidebar. It's easy to configure: you don't need help doing that stuff, CJ.

hotspur18 said...

I don't have problem with ads, I just don't like the ones with pop ups or sound. If you can make a little extra with unabtrusive ads why not do it.

Reflex said...

CJ - I say go for it on the ads, but please avoid the scam ones(white teeth, work from home, 'one simple trick to flat abs', getting ripped, etc). These all lead to a network of scammers that put perpetual charges on credit cards. thebigmoney.com has more information on this and what ad networks are running this crap.

Travis - $80/hour sounds like a lot until you make it. Then you realize that no, your wrists are actually worth more than that. No amount of money I can imagine makes the burning pain and sleepless nights worth it. Carpal tunnel's a bitch. Money dosen't make it any easier to endure.

Travis said...

Reflex: There are plenty of jobs more tiring than massaging that pay less. For example, looking in the classifieds today I see an ad that says a moving company is hiring. They will pay you $8.50 to move furniture all day. Another ad is looking for people who are willing to chop down trees. You know, with a saw? It pays $10 an hour. Manuel labor will not make you rich. Having a vagina, it appears, will.

ReflexVE said...

Travis - Do I detect bitterness here? In case you forgot, CJ actually is a LMT, which is a skilled position. You are right, uneducated unskilled labor pays very little(unless you are union). Skilled labor obviously pays much more.

And yes, in some cases a vagina can allow unskilled laborers to earn money above and beyond their male peers. By the same token, oftentimes having a penis will get a person promoted or considered for certain positions simply by dint of that fact.

But then nobody ever claimed life was fair, did they?

Travis said...

Reflex: It's one thing to say "life isn't fair". It quite another for CJ to bitch about her job in front of people who have it worse. CJ is uses this blog to gripe about her job, but seems oblivious to the fact that most of the men who pay here this outragous sums have far worse jobs than her.

Take for instance, the truck drivers, CJ has said make up a large fraction of her customers. Your typical trucker:

-Works 50 or more hours per week, with no overtime pay

-Earns $18.38 per hour

-Had to get special training to recieve a Commercial Driving Liscence. (Truck driving takes as much skill as back rubbing)

-Has a higher chance of dying on the road than a active duty soldior has of dying in Iraq.

In short, truck driving is a boring, dangerous, low paying job that requires long hours and special training. Why do you think men choose this profession? Because they can't choose jobs like erotic masseuses.

Techno girl geek here. I'm actually a webmaster by day for the government and for fun, I also do part time Internet Marketing (that's what you call people who make a living on the Internet through various means like Adsense, Ebay, Amazon affliates, etc.). It's actually pretty good pocket change... In fact if I work on it more (it's boring as hell) it can be a full time income.

One thing you have to worry though is that if you use something like Adsense, your fans might think they are doing you a favor and click on those ads repeatedly. Obviously, Google will think you're trying to game the system. That's instant ban of your Adsense account and it's a bitch to get back.

You're also a very entertaining writer. That means that people are more "ad blind". It might seem counter intuitive but the worse your writing is, the more you will earn because people will be more inclined to look elsewhere as you lose their attention and they click out of your site = good for business.

What I would do in your case because you have a loyal following is to recommend products. For example, don't just slap an Amazon product on the side bar, it won't get you anywhere. You need to give people a nudge... If you do a write up within the post and create a link to Amazon saying these are CJ's preferred massage oils, I think people will buy based on your recommendations. Obviously, they have to be legit recommendations.

Those are just a few suggestions as I've always wondered why you didn't monetize (same thing with College Call Gal when she was writing and where I found you). I'm all about making money and think you should be paid for your efforts.

Reflex said...

Travis - Honestly based on statements made in this blog, I'd be willing to bet that on average, CJ makes about what you just said a truck driver makes(around here they actually make quite a bit more than that, btw). While she may charge quite a bit in the room, there is also a lot of down time, as pointed out in this post when she took a nap for an hour after her first customer.

I've worked on commission before, its not constant, it comes in spurts, and you have good and bad days/weeks/mnonths. I'd be shocked if CJ makes what I do, even once adjusted for the local economy, and I'm nothing more than middle class around here.

Anonymous said...

Put up an ad for your place :)

Travis said...

Reflex: If CJ's making less than $20 an hour (on average), that means she's getting three hours of free time for every one hour of work. She does a massage, then gets to read, sleep, play computer, ect for three hours. Not a bad gig for $20 an hour.

em jaye peeeeee said...

yeah, monetize the mother-effer. why not? Or set up a link for paypal donations. The amazon wishlist is a good idea too.

Do something - you're entertaining us with your stories...you deserve some compensation.

You could probably make a killing if you sold signed 8x10's of your face. LOL

Well since I use google reader, I would not see ads anyway. That being said, I don't see how anyone should have a problem with it, with the exception of 'the scam ads.' that were mentioned above. Maybe you could get ads for massage oils or supplies?
Keep up the good work, I really enjoy every post!

Reflex said...

Travis - Almost everyone I know can think of a reason why they believe someone else has it easier than they do at thier job for more money. And then justify why they should earn more. Hey, believe what you want, but I hear this song and dance all the time.

When I delivered pizza in my younger years I averaged $16-20/hour in wages/tips/mileage for spending 40 mins out of every hour driving around town listening to my stereo. Easiest money I've ever made in my life, no vagina required. Gonna be bitter about that too?

mariam said...

Okay, that anonymous guy nailed it even though I didn't mention it in my first comment. If you want to really get paid, the best way is do self advertising. Cut the middleman stuff.

I know you probably can't do it for your own business but how about calling other businesses and offering them ad space? In different cities. You can pretty much make BANK there. You're providing men a list of "CJ approved massage parlors". Even though you can't say it outright, I think people can figure it out what options these places provide.

When you call these places up, say how many readers you have, what your search results are and talk about the educational service you are providing men, etc. Just talk it up.

A word of warning though. I have no idea what Blogger ToS is regarding advertising for these establishments. Read the fine print carefully. If not, consider getting self hosting - it's like $10 a month but you won't have to worry about what you can and can't do. I would recommend also getting private registration so people can't see who owns the domain name. Your readers will have to follow you though and you will lose what search engine traffic you had so it would be a bitch to start over but in the long run, it is worthwhile.

I've never had an adult site before but I would imagine that massage parlors would pay like $100+ a month for ad space/links? How much does your place spend for an ad in the paper? (Make the links no follow so you won't get punished by Google. Get your techie friend to explain to you what that is). I wouldn't think it's hard to get a list going...

The affiliate stuff I was talking earlier gets you some pocket change but obviously, you can make a ton more with lead generation...

Mariam, may I somehow get your e-mail contact for some internet marketing questions?

Anonymous said...

Be aware that if some of the ads are not work friendly it can severely reduce your visits.

I don't think there's anything wrong with posting ads on this site. Everyone here is exposed to advertisement constantly, and everyone is used to it. I didn't even notice that there weren't any ads on here until you mentioned it. One scenario is this: Let's just say that someone is reading this that has a tiny penis, and so he has a Hummer to make up for the fact. He comes here reading your blog religiously like I do and notice an ad for penis enlargement. He clicks on it out of curiosity and is somehow able to grow his penis profoundly, and since he doesn't have "tiny man syndrome" anymore, he goes out and trades in his Hummer for an Impala, and gets the car saleslady's number in his new-found confidence, and gets laid.
I have a few questions for you:
1. Do you ever wish that you had a penis, even just for an hour? As a massage therapist I am constantly getting massages to make sure that what I do feels awesome and to improve on my technique. You claim to be an expert at what you do and take the jizz and the mens' body language as a sign of success, but do you ever have this lingering sense of mystery in the back of your mind, an occasional inside voice that asks you, "But what does it FEEL like?" I think that would drive me crazy.
2. Do you have any advice for all the poor "regular" massage therapists out there, the wannabe erotic ones, who are secretly envious of your sugar daddies and money and life of glamor, and who don't have any massage parlors in their area? If you were back at the hair and nail salon today, and some of your regulars asked you for a HJ, and offered to tip, would you consider it?
3. Are your rooms sound-proof?

Hey CJ,

Love your blog. Can you tell me if this sounds like a legitimate therapeutic place, or one that will give a release?

Everything points toward the latter (Chinatown, have to be buzzed in, asked me if I'd been there before, etc.), except one thing:

When I was taken back, it was just one room with 3 small "rooms"--there was just those Chinese doors or whatever creating little 6x10 rooms. They didn't go to the ceiling, and they were basically made of paper, so do you think that's a sign that it's a completely legitimate place? There's no acoustic privacy whatsoever from the person next to you, so I think handjobs would be awkward.

Thanks

LOL@Travis.

I do not think CJ gripes about her job at all. She shares how her day was. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad.

Least you have a hatah now CJ!! That means you have made it in the blogging world! YAY!

Blinking advertising is very distracting while writing, but there's no guarantee that's what would come with adsense. You could try it out for a bit and then turn it off after a while if you wanted.

I wouldn't think any less of a blog that had it, and I'm sure you'd make money since there are plenty of links to this blog elsewhere.

Hey CJ,

Contact your person that you delt with at Playboy to see if they can get you a contact at Playboy's Marketing Department. You then see if they would be interested in buying your blog and paying you a monthly fee for writing about your exploits each month. Playboy should be interested in buying your blog, because Playboy could have a bigger presence online(which could increase online sales), plus it's the trend for news, entertainment, and even search engine businesses to create blogs, so why not buy yours that already gets thousands of hits a day? You could keep your blog free to your readers, and Playboy could make their advertising on your blog so that it would be asthetically apealing to you.
